The Acolyte Corps:
Preserving Tradition, Embracing the Future
Have you ever wondered about those dedicated volunteers in white robes who assist during our worship services? They're the Acolyte Corps – an integral part of creating the worship experience at Saint Michael.
What is the Acolyte Corps?
From carrying torches and crosses to handling the Gospel book and offering the wine at communion, acolytes of all ages ensure our services flow with reverence and grace.
Serving as an acolyte connects you to centuries of tradition while allowing you to participate actively in worship. Many find that what begins as a simple way to serve becomes a deeply meaningful spiritual practice.
Why Join the Acolyte Corps?
Deeper Connection to Worship & Spiritual Growth: Acolytes experience worship and liturgy from a different perspective, often furthering their spiritual growth.
Volunteer Opportunity for All Ages: The Corps is one of few ministries where volunteers have meaningful fellowship across generations, genders, and life experience.
Practical Service: For those who prefer hands-on involvement over committee work, acolyte service provides a tangible way to contribute to church life.
Flexible Commitment: Acolyting accommodates individual worship service preferences and schedules.
What we love about being an acolyte is feeling like an active participant rather than just an observer during worship. There's something powerful about helping create sacred moments for the congregation.
Join Our Ranks!
The Acolyte Corps welcomes new members of all ages including those as young as third graders up to those in retirement. Whether you're drawn to the beauty of liturgical tradition, seeking a new way to serve, or simply curious about what acolytes do, there's a place for you in this ministry.
Training is provided for all roles, with opportunities to progress from simpler responsibilities to more complex ones as your comfort and experience grow.
We especially encourage families to consider serving together. It's a wonderful way for parents and children to share in ministry and create special memories.
